Ancient Diriyah: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the town of Al-Diriyah is located about 16 miles northwest of Riyadh.

The historic area of the town includes two main sections and many quarters or neighborhoods. There are ruins of the palace and old city to explore.

Located on a hill overlooking Wadi Hanifa on the northwestern outskirts of Riyadh, is the ancestral home of the Saudi royal family and served as the Saudi capital until 1818 .

About 12 miles outside Riyadh, in the desert, lies the ruins of the city of Diriyah, (the nation’s first capital), which makes for an interesting excursion, as does a trip to the world’s largest camel market.
